During the original theatrical run , theater received one of three endings , something that was n’t known to moviegoers until after the fact . The demand to have everything in berth to stick out multiple possible end goes a way to explain some repugnance , there are still a few things that do n’t quite have any explanation in the film .
How Did The Butler Switch Happen?
We finally find out ( in one ending , at least ) that Mr. Boddy is the Samuel Butler , while Wadsworth is the extortionist behind the plan the whole time . Obviously , Boddy knew enough from the beginning to go along with it , so why did he agree to it ?
He had to have known there was at least a prospect it could go gravely for him , even if someone just jumped on him before other guests pull him off . It obviously went very incorrect for him . Did Wadsworth have dirt on him , too ?
What Was His Original Plan?
It seems like Mr. Boddy ’s gift of the weapons to the other Edgar Albert Guest was n’t part of Wadsworth ’s original plan — at least in the two endings where he ’s an FBI agentive role — based on his reaction to it . What was his original plan for how things were supposed to go in any of the closing ?
Why did he even bring them there in the ending where he was the blackmailer all along ? It seems like the best resolution in that conclusion would have been to have never had the party .
Mister Green Says Recordings Can’t Be Used As Evidence
When Wadsworth is recount the guest why they ’re all at the planetary house and come out them each for the reason they ’re being blackmail , he tell apart them that he ’s memorialise the entire matter . Understandably , everyone is infelicitous with this ; they ’ve all been paying blackmail to keep their secret .

Did it have something to do with thinking he was dead and then seeing him … not dead ? How did the candlestick get on top of the door to conk Wadsworth on the head ? Why did it find to fall off at just the right clock time ?
The Call From J Edgar Hoover
Regardless of the end , someone in the house was undercover for the FBI . In two of them , it ’s Wadsworth . In the third , Mr. Green . First , why would Hoover think it was a good idea to call the business firm during the operation ? Surely the only goodness that ’s going to do isblow the agent ’s coverand make everyone more paranoid and airless - mouthed .
secondly , Wadsworth takes the call … so what ’s the significance of the call in the ending where he is n’t the factor ?
Why Doesn’t Mister Green Want To Tell The Cop?
He ’s dead set against distinguish the cop that shows up at the door what is going on at any toll , and he ’s quite vocal about it . Should n’t the pig be someone you would want to tell , even if only to part proving your own innocence , since people keep just demonstrate up dead randomly ?
He not only to begin with slams the door in the bull ’s face , but he still takes the cop around the house later on , acting sketchy the whole time . For someone that did n’t want the fuzz involve , his actions should n’t have been too comforting to the cop or anyone else . How Is Wadsworth Both So Good And So Bad At Lying?

He also manages some great misdirection with the fallen chandelier , only to like a shot almost send the cop into the way with the organic structure and then make a haschisch out of his coverup .
Why Put All The Visitor By Themselves In Random Rooms?
The automobilist and the pig , even though they were n’t part of the dinner party , all change by reversal out to know someone already there , and each end up having something to do with the reasons the Edgar Albert Guest were being blackmailed . Why do they get put in rooms by themselveswith one or more murderers incline around ? In two endings , Wadsworth was an FBI agent ; he should have been a bit more responsible for not catch tangentially mired bystander killed .
