October Sky , a biographical feature of speech film , based on the novel by the same name , is about a young human being name Homer H. Hickam Jr. , who was so inspired by the launching of Sputnik 1 , he decided to become a NASA railroad engineer , against his father ’s wishing .

The moving picture has a 91 % on Rotten Tomatoes and received a lot of decisive eclat , yet gained no recognition during award season by Academy voters or anyone else creditworthy for   these ceremony .

Nominated: The Cider House Rules

The Cider House Rulesis a striking feature based on a 1985 novel by the same name . Directed by Lasse Hallström andstarring Tobey Maguire , Charlize Theron , and Michael Caine , the film tell the account of Homer Wells , played by Maguire , who lives in an orphans' asylum in World War II .

The film received mixed reviews but still managed to get seven Academy Award nomination , include Best Picture , which is shocking for a moving picture that was n’t more wide received .

Should Have Been: The Virgin Suicides

This is another dramatic feature film based on a novel by the same name but it did n’t find nearly as much aid from the Academy in the year it was eligible , despite being premiere at Cannes and receiving a legal age of prescribed reviews .

The film , tell from the position of a group of boy who were enamored by five sisters develop up in their Detroit neighborhood in the seventies , was Sophia Coppola ’s directorial debut .   It was left out of the Academy Awards all , which a lot of fans dissent with .

Should Have Been: The Talented Mr. Ripley

This psychological thriller stars Matt Damon , Jude Law , and Gwyneth Paltrow and was written and direct by Anthony Minghella . The film is ground on the 1955 novel with the same name and was very well find , even by the toughest critic , upon its liberation .

The pic was nominated for five Academy Awards for the 2000 ceremonial , including a Best Supporting Actor nominating speech for Jude Law , but was left out of most of the other major categories , including Best Picture .

The Insideris a dramatic feature film ground on literal life effect .
