Maybe about 15 years ago , I was given an honorary PhD from Howard University . So I went there , and he was my guide , he was my student guide before anything and everything . He was an actor there , yeah . He told me that at the opening party , at the premiere political party , and I was like ‘ You could hold water ! I ca n’t throw water ! ’ And we sat next to each other every morning in the makeup chair as we ’re get our lines and our accents and our piece of work together for the Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , and he was just so awe-inspiring and he reminded me of that .
While certainly surrealistic that they stop up colleagues after such a fortune brush , Bassett was not the only fame connexion Boseman made while a student at Howard . Denzel Washington once helped provide the financial backing required for him to attend a summer program at Oxford , and the two afterwards collaborated onBoseman ’s last feature motion-picture show , Ma Rainey ’s Black Bottom . These moments certainly make for good stories , but they also are testaments to the grade of theBlack Pantherstar ’s talent , and his departure left a gaping hole in both the MCU and the pic industry at large .
Now , Bassett and the rest of theBlack Panther : Wakanda Forevercast have to make out with the loss of Boseman , which gift as much of a challenge as a responsibility to respect his legacy . While the sequel will surely give smashing attention to character like Letitia Wright ’s Shuri , Danai Gurira ’s Okoye , and Lupita Nyong’o ’s Nakia , it ’s currently unidentified how the moving picture will explain T’Challa ’s absence seizure in - universe of discourse , and how that constituent is handle could be the difference between the undertaking ’s success or failure . Audiences have plenty of MCU subject matter to get through first , though , and with theThor : Love and Thundertrailer still not released yet , it could be a long time before thefirstBlack Panther 2footagesurfaces .
