Fans were already apprehensively awaiting the highly anticipated face - off betweenSonic the Hedgehogand his cyborg replacementSurge the Tenrec , but the wriggle confessions Surge unloads upon her opponent just set her up as an even more brainsick person than even Dr. Robotnik ( aka Dr. Eggman)himself .
During her introduction , what intrigue readers about Surge was how her creatorDr . Starline modeled her after Sonic , programme the tenrec to embrace his posture and raw personality . This was dark enough by itself , but Surge after confirms she has a specific reason to target Sonic , asrevealed inSonic the Hedgehog#50by author Ian Flynn , creative person Adam Bryce Thomas , colorists Matt Herms , Heather Breckel , Reggie Graham , and letterer Shawn Lee . Surge resents having been made into a bionic man mostly because of how much Starline can pull wires her and since every facet about her current predicament only sheds negatively charged light on what her liveliness must have been like before becoming a cyborg - a memory she ca n’t recall as a victim of amnesia . In her eyes , it ’s all Sonic ’s fault because he could have easily killed Eggman and Starline or , if some moral codification has been preventing him from finishing them off , could have at least given up and allow them rule the world . She trust that by keep up their dispute , he prompted her universe , and wishes to eradicate him in return .
evidently , Surge ’s desire to destruct everything is disturbing , but what ’s even worse is that this excessive solution is the only viable option the tendrac believes she has . Even thoughSurge resents having been madeinto a mindless monster , she does n’t see any possible life outside of her current plight . Sonic even gives her a chance to begin afresh during their battle , but the concept of trying to find herself in a world that has , in her eyes , rejected her is so farfetched that she refuses his offer . Because she ca n’t continue be as a cyborg hard worker to Starline either , Surge concludes she has no other alternative but to eradicate everything .
It ’s also intrigue that , as essentially a third company to the war between Sonic and Eggman , she consider transonic as the ultimate problem , not Eggman or Starline . She obviously reveres power , as she believes transonic has the capability to overtake both vicious doctors , which is why she blame him for not eliminating them . But it ’s also interesting that Surge think that Sonic ’s obsession with freedom is the true culprit behind her suffering , not theevil inclination of Eggman and Starline . Essentially , she espouses the opinion that exemption should bow down to evil if the powers that oppose it ca n’t or wo n’t dead destroy said malign . Even though she herself has lose all freedom and hates Starline for taking hers away , she view Sonic ’s hobby of it as the ultimate sin .
Dr. Eggman might have always endeavored to rule Sonic ’s cosmos and enslave the major planet ’s inhabitant , butSurgeis an anthropomorphous critter likeSonic the Hedgehogwho ’s the victim of Eggman by wing , and yet is choosing to destroy the one hero who can release her from her own curse - all because that wedge had the temerity to fight for what she herself desires .
