Big things were expected of theStar Warsprequels when the first instalment , The Phantom Menace , strike screens back in the summer of 1999 . Fans flocked to their local movie theatre to see just how Anakin Skywalker ’s story would begin before he would become the iconic villain that isDarth Vader . However the megahit , like sequelsAttack of the ClonesandRevenge of the Sith , end up being implausibly divisive . Some have it away it , others hate it .

In the time since , however , they ’ve become increasingly democratic - thanks to a little help fromThe Clone WarsTV series . Now , with the benefit of hindsight , we ’ll take a looking at back at the trilogy and pick out 10 eccentric we finger were underused .

Mace Windu

When you have an actor like Samuel L. Jackson at your administration , you carry him to be a middling striking phallus of the plaster cast . However , he made just momentaneous cameo inThe Phantom MenaceandAttack of the Clones- and only really hit his stride whenRevenge of the Sithhit theatres back in 2005 .

Admittedly , Windu does have some epic moments . Hisbeheading of Jango Fettis remorseless and his battle with Palpatine is certainly enthral to watch . However , he did n’t get as much screentime as fans expect . And that mean it ’s no surprisal he make this leaning .

Kit Fisto

If you ’re only a fan of the Star Wars film , then you may be forgiven for thinking Kit Fisto is n’t that interesting . After all , he make only a brief , fighting cameo inAttack of the Clonesand is easy killed by Palpatine in the following film , dying after just a topic of seconds .

But Fisto is a big hand in other Star Wars media andThe Clone Warscertainly avail flesh out his character . Fisto has some memorable moment , such as fighting General Grievous and rescuing Ahsoka Tano when she seems destined to die . Therefore , he did n’t get the big screen treatment he deserved .

Ki-Adi-Mundi

English worker Silas Carson wreak Viceroy Nute Gunray in all three of the Star Wars prequels and also takes on the role of Ki - Adi - Mundi . However while Gunray gets pot of screentime inThe Phantom Menace , and also has some big second in the two movies that follow , the same ca n’t be said for Mundi .

Again , like Windu and Fisto , he ’s a Jedi Knight whoThe Clone Warsdid a brilliant Book of Job at making interesting . Mundi fight alongside Anakin Skywalker and Obi - Wan Kenobi at the second battle of Geonosis , avail freeMandaloreand took part in the rescue mission to save Quinlan Vos . Again , though , he got snubbed when it came to the movies with many other characters instead taking the public eye .

Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma became something of a cult zep after the events ofReturn of the Jedi . She helps organise the Rebel Alliance ’s tone-beginning on the Death Star , being one of the masterminds behind the process . She also appear in Rogue One , the prequel toA New Hopethat released back in December 2016 .

Her involvement in the prequels is just one deleted scenery inRevenge of the Sith , however , where she talks with Padme Amidala about the fate of the Senate as Emperor Palpatine tightens his grip on the galaxy . Given how she ’s comparatively prominent in the final routine of the original trilogy , she deserved more . Alas , it was n’t to be .

Jabba The Hutt

When it was shown that Qui - Gon Jinn and Obi - Wan Kenobi would meet Anakin Skywalker on the planet of Tatooine , fans dared to daydream of an coming into court from Jabba the Hutt . The gangster appear during two movies of the original trilogy and made a abbreviated cameo inThe Phantom Menace , presently before Anakin take chances his subdivision at theBoonta Eve podrace .

But , in what feels like a big missed opportunity , Jabba does n’t do anything . The Hutts , too , had their potential squandered on the freehanded screen . It would have been skillful to see more of Jabba but the space slug is barely involve and his amour is merely fan divine service .

Commander Cody

Commander Cody is introduced inRevenge of the Sith . He ’s a loyal hero alongside Obi - Wan Kenobi , serving the Jedi with the utmost trueness during their time together . But he ends up turning on Kenobi following Holy Order 66 - where Palpatine orders all Clone troopers to rid the wandflower of the ancient warriors .

Cody is another character who was greatly enhanced byThe Clone Wars , seem in a huge 32 episodes . Not much is known about his life after the fall of the Jedi but we imagine he served the Empire with distinction - just like he did the Republic prior to Palpatine ’s evil enactment .

Grand Moff Tarkin

Grand Moff Tarkin ’s cameo inRevenge of the Sithis brief , to say the least . A younger version of the villain fromA New Hopestands with Palpatine and Darth Vader as they look out at the fresh Death Star , with Vader only just encased in his armor following his defeat to former acquaintance Obi - Wan Kenobi on the lava satellite of Mustafar .

Fans look Tarkin to be introduced in the blockbuster but the realness is that he ’s just there as a cameo , rather than anything meaningful to the plot . It ’s a nice touch but , hand how pop a tough guy the character has become over the years , it would have been good to see him on screen for a little longer .

Aunt Beru And Uncle Owen

Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen are Luke Skywalker ’s only family members when he ’s first go steady in A New Hope . They alas perish in that movie with the Empire kill them after finding out they buy droids C3 - PO and R2 - D2 , from Jawas . Both droids are accused of select the Death Star plans , which could pass to the space station ’s demolition .

They scantily get a look - in in the prequels , though . They run across Anakin inAttack of the Clonesand take Luke off Kenobi ’s hands inRevenge of the Sithbut that ’s all we get to see . It would have been fascinating to find out more about the characters given they ’re related to the posting boy of the series but that ’s a job for different forms of media instead .

Darth Maul

Prior toThe Phantom Menace ’s release in 1999 , everybody was bombilate about the mysterious villain Darth Maul . With his cherry and black face , horned point and double - bladedlightsaberhe unquestionably look the part , a eccentric perhaps worthy of sharing the bad guy can with Darth Vader .

Yet Maul , in that moving picture , is shoved to the side . Most of the natural action follows the secure guy cable and Maul takes a backwards bottom , spend most of the blockbuster on the bang of things before playing a starring role in the battle on Naboo at the end . Maul is assume bushed after he ’s sliced open by Kenobi but ends up give back inThe Clone Wars , with Lucasfilm realise the error of their ways .

General Grievous

Many fans were surprised when it was announced a novel villain would be introduced inRevenge of the Sith , despite it being the last installment of the prequel trilogy . After all , this was meant to be the here and now where Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader . What was the point ?

However , by the end of the film , nobody was complaining . General Grievous had amazing intention , was a redoubtable warrior and was also capable of killing Jedi and wielding four lightsabers all at once . He was so cool many were disappointed by his dying and , like Maul , The Clone Warshas also done him a great military service . It ’s just a shame he was so underused on the crowing concealment .
