There ’s no question that Peter Jackson’sThe Lord of the Ringsis one of thebest fantasy picture show ever made . The brilliance of it is that it somehow manages to be both true to Tolkien ’s vision ( for the most part ) , while also being very much a product of Jackson ’s imagination .

The end , for the most part , was satisfying , land all of the narration threads to a near and allow for each of the character to find repose in their life . However , there are still a few things about   the ending that , almost twenty class later , do n’t always make a whole lot of sense .

Why They Cut The Scouring Of The Shire

Obviously , any fourth dimension someone translates a mammoth book like Tolkien ’s to the self-aggrandizing screenland , there are extend to be cuts , and for the most part , these make sentience . However , Jackson ’s decision to edit the Scouring of the Shire , in which the hobbits give to regain their homeland ruled over by thecruel villain Saruman , is one of the most devastating .

It really does undercut the whole stop that Tolkien was seek to make , and it ’s one of Jackson ’s most nonsensical missteps .

Why Bilbo Aged So Quickly

After he gives up the Ring , Bilbo seems to age at warp speed . In the flick , this seems to be excuse by the fact that he is no longer being “ blessed ” by the Ring ’s power . However , this does n’t make a whole lot of sense .

After all , there ’s no grounds that Gollum age substantially when he lost the Ring , and he had a slew longer than Bilbo . Bilbo ’s aging is particularly noticeable near the end of the film , and it sometimes verge a bit on the ridiculous .

Why It Has So Many Fades To Black

One of the joke that always spread about the ending of this trilogy is that it seems to go on forever . There ’s some justice to this claim , considering just how many time the screen fades to Joseph Black for several seconds before re-start .

While this was clearly intended to build up suspense among the looker , it does seem like Jackson could have found a more seamless and less distracting way of bringing his moving picture to a conclusion .

Why Celeborn Goes With Galadriel

At the end of the film , the most hefty Elves in Middle - earth gather at the Grey Havens to pull up stakes across the sea , and this includes both Galadriel and Celeborn . The thing is , in the books it is only Galadriel who departs , while Celeborn stays on to appear after their household of Lothlorien .

This is one of those changes that   do n’t make a whole tidy sum of sentience since it would have been very gentle to just allow Celeborn to remain behind as a reminder of what Middle - earth has now turn a loss .

Why Does Shadowfax Get On The Boat To The Undying Lands?

Everyone knows that one of the most significant relationship that Gandalf has is with his horse Shadowfax . It ’s gentle to understand why the two are so close , considering all of the thing that they ’ve endured together and how useful Shadowfax has been ( like so many of the othermagical brute of this mankind ) .

However , it does seem a piece strange to see Shadowfax guide aboard the ship that ’s taking canvass to the Undying Lands , if for no other reasonableness than that a sawhorse does sort of cut off the solemnity of this very important moment . Of the things thatmake no sense about Gandalf , this one is at the top of the list .

Sam’s Romance With Rosie Seems Awfully Fast

Unlike Frodo , who prefers to live his liveliness as a bachelor , Sam finds himself drawn to the beautiful Rosie Cotton , a young woman that heapparently had feelings for even before he left for his grand dangerous undertaking .

One of the final scenes of the film show him getting marry to her . While of course this sort of makes sense , it ’s also kind of weird to see them get married when the spectator has n’t really see the two of them in many scenes together .

Who’s Pippin’s New Love Interest (And Why Doesn’t Merry Get One?)

During Sam ’s marriage to Rosie , the camera cuts to show Pippin , an endearing yet alsoinfuriating role , sharing a very significant glance with another hobbit cleaning lady . However , the viewer is n’t clued into who this is ( though Tolkien lover will eff that it ’s Diamond of Long Cleeve ) .

It would have been nice to get that data or , for the matter , to see whether Merry also found a lovely young cleaning woman to tie ( uncalled-for to say , in the books , he did ) .

Why There Isn’t More Of A Farewell For Aragorn

For the most part , the ending of this cinematic triumph is pretty skillful at enclose up storyline and giving graphic symbol a good send - off . This is less true of Aragorn than it is for the hobbit and Gandalf , since the last thing the looker sees of him is his panorama in Minas Tirith when he take the toilet .

It would have been gracious to have a routine more fourth dimension with him , if only so that he could bid Gandalf and the others farewell as they depart across the Sea .

Why There Isn’t A Funeral For Theoden

Theoden was one of those characters it was impossible not to like . Bernard Hill brought him to life story with such passion and power that it was easy to believe that he truly was the King of Rohan . His destruction at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields was one of the film ’s most aroused moments .

That being the case , it ’s a little strange , and disappointing , that he was n’t really given an on - screen funeral in a way that would have been a good send - off for this great role .

Why There Isn’t More Elaboration Of The Eowyn/Faramir Romance

Those who ’ve seen the extended edition of the film know that , aftershe defeats the Witch - mogul , Eowyn meets Faramir in the Houses of Healing . In fact , they come to love one another . However , the last thing the spectator sees of them is   them apportion a brief glance during Aragorn ’s enthronement .

One would think that the film could have given at least a match of minutes to these crucial character to recount the looker what they plan on doing now that Sauron was vanquished .
