Peter Jackson ’s 2001 filmThe Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ringkicked off the picture show adaptations of Tolkien ’s legendary playscript . The Fellowshipwas an incredibly influential motion-picture show . It was visually arresting , having been film whole in Jackson ’s native New Zealand . The soundtrack and the casting are phenomenal and the film received mostly confirming reviews .

Of course , it is almost impossible for a photographic film version of a book to be completely perfect and acceptable for everyone . sure characters and scenes have to be thin for clock time ’s sake and for clarity , andThe Fellowshipis no exception . Some characters just do n’t need a ton of screen time and   the five thespian with the most projection screen time were well selected and do an excellent job of carrying the story .

Note : For the purposes of this article we will be discussing theTheatrical Version , not the Extended Edition

Least: Rosie Cotton

Rosie Cotton is Samwise Gamgee ’s love pastime , but she has only a few seconds of screen sentence inThe companionship . She is seen dancing at Bilbo ’s political party and Frodo urge Sam , “ ask Rosie for a dance ” and campaign him toward her . It would have been nice to see a little more of Rosie and Sam ’s relationship , but maybe there just was n’t enough clip inThe Fellowship .

Most: Merry and Pippin

Although their screen times surely motley in the later two moving-picture show , inThe FellowshipMerry and Pippin are reasonably much inseparable , so we ’ve include them as one incoming . The pair have quite a bit of screen time , accompanying Frodo all the way from the Shire to Rivendell .

They then volunteer to avail Frodo take the doughnut to Mordor , and they are with the Fellowship until they are kidnapped by Orcs in one of the last scenes of the film .

Least: Sauron

ConsideringSauron is the central adversary ofThe Lord of the Rings , it ’s surprising that he has so trivial screen time inThe Fellowship . In fact , Sauron mostly acts through his henchmen ( Orcs and other villainous creatures )   throughout the film . He is , however , in brief shown in the prologue , which account his rise to office and going of the Ring to Isildur .

Most: Aragorn

Aragorn is introduced much earlier in the film than Legolas , Gimli , and Boromir so he has quite a bit more screen time inThe company . Also known as Strider , Aragorn finds Frodo and the other Hobbits at a pub in Bree and helps them to get aside from the Ringwraiths . He protects the Hobbits until they can reach Rivendell and then join the Fellowship to protect Frodo while he takes the pack to Mordor .

Least: Harry Goatleaf

Harry Goatleaf might be more well known as the Gatekeeper of Bree , who have Frodo and the other Hobbits into the Ithiel Town . Played by Martyn Sanderson , he has only a few lines with the Hobbits and then is tragically trampled when the Ring Wraiths go against down the Gate a few scenes afterwards .

Most: Sam

As Frodo ’s faithful proficient ally , Sam rarely pull up stakes his side . This , of course of study , means that Sam has a quite a little of screen time . From the very beginning , Sam come with Frodo as he flees the Shire to keep the Ring safe . And when Frodo volunteers to go to Mordor , of course , Sam is right behind him . Sam is a darling theatrical role and his devotion to his booster is touching inThe Fellowship . When Frodo declares that he is going to Mordor alone , Sam yells , " Of course you are ! And I ’m coming with you ! "

Least: Odo Proudfoot

Thedisapproving , grumpy - see Hobbitwho leers at Gandalf as he first go far in the Shire is credit inThe Fellowshipfilm as Everard Proudfoot . However , he was likely based on the lineament Odo Proudfoot from the book , a first cousin of Bilbo Baggins .

Odo ( or Everard ) is seen express joy at Gandalf ’s fireworks , to the disapproval of his married woman , and shouts , “ Proudfeet ! ” while Bilbo present his birthday language . After that , he disappears until he is shortly shown at the end ofReturn of the King .

Most: Gandalf

Gandalf the Grey appears almost right from the beginning inThe society , return to the Shire for Bilbo ’s 111th natal day . He has a pretty rough prison term in the first motion-picture show , battling Saruman and getting immobilise on the top of his tower . Then he goes header to head with the Balrog andis essentially " killed " in the Mines of Moria . After this Gandalf does not re-emerge untilThe Two Towers , where he is reborn as Gandalf the White .

Least: Gollum

Gollum is a reasonably important grapheme inThe Two TowersandThe Return of The King , but he has very little screen clock time inThe companionship . Early on in the film , Gandalf differentiate Frodo that Gollum get it on that Bilbo had the Ring , and there isa flashback of him being tortured by Sauron . Gollum also follows the Fellowship for several days . He is distinguish by Frodo , but he stay fresh his distance while Gandalf fills Frodo in on who he is . viewing audience do n’t even get a clean look at him until the next film .

Most: Frodo

As the central friend inThe society , it makes sentiency that Frodo has the most screen time . He begin off the movie as a somewhat slaphappy Hobbit but ends up with the monolithic duty of take the Ring to Mordor . The focus is particularly on Frodo inThe Fellowshipbecause he has not yet been separated from   Merry , Pippin , and his defender . Frodo changes a spate throughout this film and follow in his uncle ’s footstep in take on the escapade of a life-time .
